Dear University of Worcester FOI Team,

Some time ago, I wrote to you about the difficulties of recruiting academic staff from the EU in the current political climate. I am concerned, but hopeful that Worcester has been able to continue to recruit EU staff in significant numbers.

I was wondering if you would be able to tell me:

1) How many new EU academic staff the university has been able to recruit over the last year
2) How many EU academic staff have left the university over the same time period
3) The overall number of EU academic staff currently working at Worcester (this one is less important)

Your help will be greatly appreciated.

Many thanks,
Matthew Taylor

Gemma Harris, University of Worcester

Dear Mr Taylor,

Further to your request of 18th January 2020, please see our responses below. The figures are all headcounts as some people may have multiple roles with us. Researchers who have no element of teaching in their role have not been classed as 'academic staff' and so not included in these figures. All figures exclude the United Kingdom and Ireland (as we do not differentiate on our system between Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland).

Question 1) How many new EU academic staff the university has been able to recruit over the last year?
Answer 1) None

Question 2) How many EU academic staff have left the university over the same time period?
Answer 2) None

Question 3) The overall number of EU academic staff currently working at Worcester (this one is less important)?
Answer 3) The University has 21 academic staff from the EU (10 salaried, 11 hourly paid).
