Ethnicity of STP Applicants and Successful Posts in Wales

Health Education and Improvement Wales did not have the information requested.

Dear Health Education and Improvement Wales,

This request relates to the Scientist Training Programme (STP) overseen by the National School of Healthcare Science (NSHCS).
With permission from the creator of the STP FOI request in England (Naima Fredericks; BAME STP network), we use this template to request that you release the ethnicity of total applicants to the STP in Wales, applicants invited to interview, and successful applicants for each specialism, from 2018 - 2020. We request that the data be released in terms of the specific ethnicity origin categories used in the online NHS jobs application form (under the Monitoring Information section), if they are different from those included below.
We request the statistics held for:
- number of applicants from Asian ethnic background
- number of applicants from Black ethnic background
- number of applicants from Mixed ethnic background
- number of applicants from Other Minority Ethnic background
- number of applicants from White ethnic background
- number of applicants invited to interview from Asian ethnic background
- number of applicants invited to interview from Black ethnic background
- number of applicants invited to interview from Mixed ethnic background
- number of applicants invited to interview from Other Minority Ethnic background
- number of applicants invited to interview from White ethnic background
- number of successful applicants from Asian ethnic background

- number of successful applicants from Other Minority Ethnic background

- ratio or percentage of successful applicants from Asian background compared to total successful applicants

- ratio or percentage of successful applicants from Mixed background compared to total successful applicants
- ratio or percentage of successful applicants from Other Minority Ethnic background compared to total successful applicants
- ratio or percentage of successful applicants from White background compared to total successful applicants

We request that this data be provided for:
- total numbers of applicants, applicants invited for interview, and successful applicants for the entire STP in Wales (all specialisms)
- broken down by each intake year from 2018 - 2020
- each specialism e.g. andrology, audiology, cardiac science etc.

We also wish to know whether HEIW collects ethnicity and diversity data from interviewers assigned to conduct the STP interviews. If this data is available, we request the number of Black, Asian, and Minority Ethnic (BAME) interviewers, compared to the total number of interviewers each year from 2018 - 2020. If available, this data should be released in terms of the specific ethnicity groups, e.g. Asian, Black, Mixed, Other Minority Ethnicity, and not under the umbrella category of BAME. If available, we request this data broken down by interviewers of each STP speciality.

Yours faithfully,

Ffion Lewis
