Dear South West Essex Primary Care Trust (PCT),

Under FOI legislation, could you please provide me with all ethnic monitoring data you have on Gypsies and Travellers health and well being, service use and staff in your PCT?

Could you also provide information detailing whether Gypsies and Travellers are monitored as standard policy in the PCT?

Yours faithfully,

Dear Matthew Brindley

In reply to your Freedom of Information request of 28 March, the following has been supplied in response to your enquiry:

*** NHS South Essex does not currently hold specific 'ethnic monitoring data' on Gypsies and Travellers within our area, over and above individual patient primary care records. We do not currently commission specific wellbeing or other health services aimed at Gypsies and Travellers but our universally commissioned services such as Primary and Community Care are available to and accessed by Gypsies and Travellers and services like Health Visiting do make regular visits to Gypsy and Traveller sites.

We do not 'monitor' Gypsy and Travellers over and above the storage of Primary Health Care records by our providers which is universal for all patients. We do however recognise the need to understand better the health needs of this particular population and are exploring the possibility of undertaking a health needs assessment through the Essex Joint Strategic Needs Assessment process, although this has yet to be agreed. ***

We thank you for your enquiry and hope this meets your requirements. Please do not hesitate to contact me if I can be of further assistance.

Kind regards
Janet Lawn

Hi Mathew,
Local TSN members know that all routine health visits to Dale Farm have been stopped on "health and safety" grounds since the eviction. For example no health visitors have been out to families with newborn babies, they have to go to their doctors surgery.
Last week when I was there I had to call emergency services to an elderly woman with diabetes and she was taken to hospital. She doesn't have a health visitor and urgently needs one.
I can get more dates and names if needed.
