Dear Matthew Brindley

Thank you for your Freedom of Information request dated 28/03/2012.

Please see below the information you requested and our
response(s) highlighted in blue:

Under FOI legislation, could you please provide me with all ethnic
monitoring data you have on Gypsies and Travellers health and well being,
service use and staff in your PCT?

I can confirm all applicants to NHS positions are asked on a confidential
on-line application form for their ethnic group. Candidates are able to
choose from a list of ethnicities and these include White Gypsy/ Romany,
White/ Irish Traveller and White Traveller. Candidate’s information is
then taken from NHS Jobs to feed our Electronic Staff Records system
(ESR), where it is recorded and accessible by the HR team. I can confirm
that from a review completed today, no staff currently employed by South
Staffs PCT, North Staffs PCT and Stoke PCT are recorded with an ethnic
origin that relates to Gypsies or Travellers.

Could you also provide information detailing whether Gypsies and
Travellers are monitored as standard policy in the PCT?
I can confirm that North Staffs, South Staffs and Stoke PCT have a
responsibility to consider how their activities as an employer affect
people who share certain characteristics under the Equality Act 2010.
Activities are analysed to ascertain whether there is any adverse impact
on specific groups include the make-up of the overall workforce, the
gender pay gap and pay equality, recruitment and retention rates,
applications for flexible working and their outcomes, applications for
learning and development opportunities, success rates of job applicants,
and return to work rates following maternity leave. Ethnic origin is a
protected characteristic for the purposes of this work, under the category
of Race.
