Ethiopia- Security Sector Management Programme
Dear Foreign and Commonwealth Office,
The UK has been funding an MSc programme in security sector management for senior Ethiopian officials since 2012.
1. One of the aims of this funding is to help reduce human rights violations by state actors in Ethiopia. However, over 30,000 people including journalists, bloggers, politicians, students and businessmen mostly from the Oromia regional state have been detained and sent to concentration camps by a Command Post (CP) created following the recent declaration of a state of emergency. The head of the CP is Siraj Fegessa, a graduate of the SSM programme from Cranfield University with funding from the UK. Some members of the CP are also beneficiaries of your funding. In the light of the continuing gross human rights violations, will this programme be renewed beyond 2017?
2. If an evaluation has been made in recent years of the outcome of this programme, please share the report.
Yours faithfully,
Michael
