I write to you under the Freedom of Information Act 2000 requesting information on Essex University's intake of undergraduate students in recent years.
Specifically, would you be able to outline the number of undergraduate applicants at Essex University for the following academic years:
2023-24
2022-23
2021-22
2020-21
2019-20
For the same academic years, could you please also outline the final intake of undergraduate students at the university.

I am writing to request an internal review of University of Essex's handling of my FOI request 'Essex University Undergraduate Intake'.
As you may be aware, ICO guidance states that when applying a Section 43 exemption, an authority "must show that because [the information] is commercially sensitive, disclosure would be, or would be likely to be, prejudicial to the commercial activities of a person (an individual, a company, the public authority itself or any other legal entity)".
This response does not appear to have included such details, so I am requesting that you conduct an internal review, and, if the exemption is upheld, show how the release would be prejudicial to commercial activities, and of whom.

Following notification of your complaint to the Information Commissioners
Office (ICO), the University has now revisited your request and reviewed
its decision to withhold information in response to your request under the
exemptions, Section 43(2) Commercial Interests, Section 21 Information
Reasonably Accessible to the Applicant by Other Means and Section 22
Future Publication, of the Freedom of Information Act 2000. Please accept
our apologies for any inconvenience that this may have caused you.
As a result of this review, the University has taken the decision to
reverse its position in relation to question one of your request and the
application of the FOIA exemption Section 43(2) Commercial Interests and
disclose this information to you. Please find the information in the table
below:
