ESRC Funding Awards
Dear University of Oxford,
Several of your Postgraduate Taught and Research courses attract ESRC funding awards. I understand these awards are awarded to student applicants via a competitive process.
However, I would like to know the following:
1) How many ESCR studentships (each for Postgraduate Taught courses leading to Research and Research study) have been bestowed in each of the academic years 2008/9, 2009/10, 2010/11 and 2011/12?
2) How is the decision reached as to which students to nominate for funding? And who takes the decision?
3) What guidance is issued to the persons within the University who take the decision to nominate applicants for funding, and may I see a copy of this guidance?
4) What records are held by the University regarding the Higher Education institutions of prior study for students who were nominated for and accepted ESRC Doctoral Funding? May I see whatever records are held?
Yours faithfully,
James Peterson
Dear Mr Peterson,
I write to acknowledge your request under the Freedom of Information Act.

Dear Mr Todd,
Thank you for the previous information supplied.
However, the data you have supplied does not communicate the distribution of funding. I am particularly interested in the quantity awards offered to graduates of a given institution.
The reason I ask for this information is that I have been told, informally, that the University has a tendency to award the majority of research council funding to its own graduates, and I wish to test the veracity of this claim.
Thus, I would like to request (you may treat this as a separate FoI request) that you supply the corresponding quantities of funding awarded to graduates of each institution.
Yours sincerely,
James Peterson
Dear Mr Peterson,
This is a new request. Your previous request was for records regarding the
'Higher Education institutions of prior study for students who were
nominated for and accepted ESRC Doctoral Funding', which we provided on 31
January 2012.
Do you want this information in relation to the same period covered by the
previous data i.e. 2008-09 to 2011-12?
We shall reply as soon as practicable, and, subject to your clarification
of the time period, no later than 23 March 2012.
Yours sincerely
