ESN (EE) indoor cell coverage in Tyne Tunnels

The request was partially successful.

Dear North East Combined Authority,

I'd like to know what plans are in place to provide 2G/3G/4G coverage in the tyne tunnel for the Emergency services network provided by EE.

Will there be indoor cells (DAS) like o2 and Vodafone currently already have?

Please provide information / plans on technology and equipment to be used

Yours faithfully,
Mark

Svetla Garchova,

Dear Mark

I refer to your recent request for information under the Freedom of Information Act 2000. I can confirm that NECA does not hold this information.

As part of the Home Office directive for an Emergency Services Mobile Communication Programme, TT2 Limited and NECA have reached an agreement to allow EE to install equipment within the tunnels and support buildings to provide the required communications for use by emergency services vehicles within the tunnels.

The equipment was installed in 2018 and is directly maintained by EE, as such TT2 provides access when required but does not hold details of the equipment installed or its specifications.

Dear Svetla Garchova,

Thank you for the information. Do you have the locations where this equipment is installed, and if it's locked down to ESN user only?

I'm an EE customer and I get no service in both tunnels.

Yours sincerely,

Mark

Dear Svetla Garchova,

I have got the information I needed from EE themselves as you failed to reply in a reasonable amount of time.

Yours sincerely,

Mark

Svetla Garchova,

Dear Mark,

Thank you for the update. I do apologise for the delay in responding to your request. As Sunderland City Council is the lead authority for responses to FOI requests made to NECA we have the responsibility to redirect requests to the appropriate officers who then collate the information and relay it back to us for finalising a response. The process could, in some cases, take longer than expected as some officers are experiencing higher than usual volume of work due to the ongoing situation.

As you now have the information you needed from another source, I will now consider this request closed.

Feel free to contact us again if you have any other queries we may be able to help with.

Best Regards,
Svetla Garchova
