Dear Sir or Madam,

Recently you responded to a request for a list of the locations of postboxes. I've been looking through the PDF you sent and I've found a number of errors. For example:

CA7, CA54, SMARTHILL

L345 541, ST JAMES ROAD

NR6, HA0, 61 SUDBURY AVENUE

Also, some of the Central London postcodes are wrong, they are missing the letter at the end of the outer part, for example:

WC1 36, WC18ER, GRAYS INN ROAD (ELM ST)

The correct postcode is WC1X 8ER.

Could you tell me how this file was produced? Is it possible for you to fix these errors and supply another file?

Yours faithfully,

Edward Betts

Dear Sir or Madam,

This request is overdue, the Freedom of Information Act requires that you respond within 20 working days.

Could you tell me why you have not provided an answer within the period required by law?

Yours sincerely,

Royal Mail Group Limited

Dear Mr Betts

I am sorry that you have not received a response to your email dated 20
July and apologise for the inconvenience this has caused. We have received
an unprecedented volume of correspondence in recent months. Unfortunately,
this has resulted in a delay to some requests . However, I can assure you
that we have responded to this and taken a number of additional measures to
ensure that future requests are dealt with appropriately.

You asked about information provided in response to a request for a list of
all postboxes. This information was taken from a database of information
supplied by Collections Managers across the UK. We are aware that there
are certain areas where the full postcodes are not shown, this is simply
due to the number of characters which can be entered. Therefore we don't
hold and cannot provide a list of all postboxes different to that
previously disclosed.

If you have any further questions or requests for information please let me
know.

Yours sincerely

Colin Young

Wow. That's quite an incredible response. Follow-up made to find out how/when this "not fit for purpose" database was created:
