Dear Mr Abrams,

Request for Information

Thank you for your email received on 17 August 2016, in which you asked for information regarding erectile dysfunction service provision.

For information, the University Hospitals of Leicester NHS Trust is one of the largest and busiest NHS teaching Trusts in the country incorporating the General Hospital, Glenfield Hospital and Royal Infirmary. Our three hospitals have around 14,000 staff serving around one million people across Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland, and a further two to three million people from the rest of the UK who come to us for the specialist services we provide. During 2015/16 we treated 1,577,200 that’s 4,321 patients per day) – 347,700 more than in 2014/15.

Following discussion with colleagues within the Cancer, Haematology, Urology, Gastroenterology and General Surgery Clinical Management Group and Emergency and Specialist Medicine Clinical Management Group, I confirm that the Trust holds some of the information covered by your request. The Trust’s response is set out after each of your questions below:-

1. Does University Hospitals of Leicester NHS Trust provide an erectile dysfunction clinic and can you provide the total number and addresses of all NHS erectile dysfunction clinics within University Hospitals of Leicester NHS Trust? If you do not know who should we ask?

Yes. I am advised that there are three such clinics within the University Hospitals of Leicester NHS Trust. Dr Jackson, Consultant Physician, runs a clinic at the Leicester General Hospital site (Gwendolen Road, Leicester, LE5 4PE) and another clinic (a dedicated weekly andrology clinic which sees patients with erectile dysfunction) is also run on the same site by the Consultant Urologists. A third clinic is run on the Leicester Royal Infirmary site (Infirmary Square, Leicester, LE1 5WW) by Dr McNally, Consultant Physician.

2. Does University Hospitals of Leicester NHS Trust provide psychosexual clinics and can you provide the total number and addresses of all NHS psychosexual clinics within University Hospitals of Leicester NHS Trust? If you do not know who should we ask?

I am advised that although the Trust hosts a Clinical Psychology service on its Leicester General Hospital site, the service is actually provided (managed and staffed) by Leicestershire Partnership NHS Trust. For further information in this respect, please re-direct your request to [email address].

I am advised, however, that Dr Jackson’s clinic (as referenced in response to question 1) does have a trained Psychosexual Counsellor.

3. Does University Hospitals of Leicester NHS Trust provide counselling and sex therapy services and can you provide the details of any NHS counselling services and sex therapy services that treat men with erectile dysfunction within University Hospitals of Leicester NHS Trust? If you do not know who should we ask?

Please see the response to question 2 above.

I hope that this response is satisfactory and provides you with the information requested (where available). If you require any further assistance please do not hesitate to contact me. If you are dissatisfied with the Trust’s response, you can contact the Director of Corporate and Legal Affairs on Tel. No. 0116 258 8615 to request a copy of UHL’s Freedom of Information Act complaints procedure.

In the event that you remain dissatisfied with the way in which the Trust has handled any complaint that you may wish to make, we would advise you of your right to complain to the Information Commissioner at the Information Commissioner’s Office, Wycliffe House, Water Lane, Wilmslow, Cheshire, SK9 5AF.

We must advise you that where we have provided information we have done so subject to the provisions of the Re-use of Public Sector Information Regulations 2005. Accordingly you must not re-use this information without having the consent of the Trust. Where the Trust is prepared to provide its consent then it may levy a charge for doing so. Should you wish to re-use documents provided then you must make your request in writing stating your name and your address for correspondence together with the document that you wish to re-use and the purpose for which the information is to be re-used.

Yours sincerely,
