Environmental information request re: Local Wildlife Sites

We're waiting for James Thomas to read recent responses and update the status.

Dear Sir/Madam,

Environmental information request re: Local Wildlife Sites

We write as part of a national research project being undertaken by universities throughout the UK and being led by the Environmental Law Foundation (ELF) exploring the threats to and loss of Local Wildlife Sites.

We have carried out some preliminary research of North Kesteven District Council and note that it has designated a number of Local Wildlife Sites.

Following our initial review, we would like the Council to provide the following information:

How many LWS are there in North Kesteven District Council in 2021?
How many LWS were there in 2017?
How many current LWS are privately owned?
What criteria are used by North Kesteven District Council to identify LWS?
How many LWS are currently being monitored by North Kesteven District Council?
What does North Kesteven District Council regard as the main threat to LWS?

We recognise that under the Environmental Information Regulations 2004 the Council is entitled to charge a reasonable sum for providing this information. However, in the circumstances of the present request and, in particular, that ELF is charity working with a very small budget, that the University has no committed budget for this, and that all the research work within this project is being carried out on a pro-bono basis, we ask that any potential fee is waived.

We also understand that the Council has 20 working days to provide this information, although we would very much welcome the information sought to be provided at the earliest opportunity. We ask that the information be provided by email throughout the email address at [email address].

If you have any queries at all or would like to discuss the project or the particular information request further then please do not hesitate to contact the Legal Advice Centre on [email address].

We look forward to hearing from you.

Yours faithfully

James Thomas
