Good Afternoon,
Our data providers have asked for clarification from yourself:
For Q7: Percentage of offers made to students under Widening Participation for V100 and V101 courses in 2019, 2022 and 2023
Please could we ask which specific Widening Participation criteria you would like the % offers made to students for e.g. POLAR4 LPN, State school, Free School meals etc.?
Thanks very much
Yours sincerely

Dear INFO-ACCESS,
Thank you so much for your swift reply
I do not require the split details for the widening participation programme, the total figure would be enough.
Thank you so much again
Yours sincerely,
jack Kong

Response:
Please find attached spreadsheet containing the data for all of the
questions in this FOI. Please note the following about this data:
• Data is provided for Year of entry 2019 and 2022. Year of entry 2023
is currently still in progress so we are unable to provide this
information until after the cycle ends on 18th October 23.
• Home and International is based on fee status.
• All numbers have been rounded to the nearest 5 as per HESA guidelines
on rounding and suppression of data
• Number of applicants includes all who applied to the course regardless
of the outcome of their application
• Number of offers includes conditional and unconditional offers
• We have defined A Level students, as applicants with at least one A
Level predicted or already achieved.
• For questions 3 and 4 we have used summary level data based on the top
3 predicted A levels. Please note where there are fewer than 3 grades,
applicants may have already achieved an A Level or may be taking
alternative level 3 qualifications alongside.
• For question 7 we have defined Widening Participation as offer holder
who were eligible for a contextual offer. The percentage is a total of
all fees offers.
• Please see below for detail on how we define contextual offers.
Contextual offer’ includes applicants who meet the criteria for a
contextual offer (criteria detailed below) , plus those who have
participated in widening participation programmes (Supported Progression,
Sutton Trust, STEP), participation in which may make them eligible for a
reduced offer
In order to be eligible for a contextual offer the applicant must meet at
least two of the following criteria:
- Applicant’s home address postcode is classified as Quintile 1
or 2 of POLAR4 LPN
- Applicant’s home address postcode is classified as ACORN 4 or 5
- Applicant’s current or most recently attended school is
classified as a UK state school
- Applicant is in receipt of free school meals
- Applicant is care experienced
- Applicant is an estranged student
If you are dissatisfied with the University’s response to your freedom of
information request, you can ask us to internally review our handling of
