A level grades and or any other entry course grades. Indication of type of school/establishment coming from and gender would also be useful if possible.

Dear Pattison,

We are unable to provide the entry grades of all students as it would be
potentially identifiable data which is exempt under Section 40 of the
Freedom of Information Act. Instead, we could provide only the overall
tariff achieved by students and the nature of qualification obtained
(A-levels or Highers, etc.) if this would still be useful to you? This
would enable the data to be presented by gender. Please confirm if you
would like us to proceed on this basis.

Kind regards

Laura

Dear Pattison,

Thank you for your information request, received on 4/7/2018.  Please find
our response as follows:

Please could you tell me the entry grades for all students getting onto
physics courses including F300, F305, F3F5, F307, F305 etc for the last 3
years. A level grades and or any other entry course grades. Indication of
type of school/establishment coming from and gender would also be useful
if possible.

We are unable to provide the entry grades of all students because it would
be potentially identifiable data which is exempt under Section 40 of the
Freedom of Information Act. Instead, we offered to provide the overall
tariff achieved by students and the nature of qualification obtained
(A-levels or Highers, etc.) presented by gender.

Please see attached spreadsheet.

Notes:

·         The data shows the average tariff of students who entered onto
an undergraduate course in any of the following programmes: Physics,
Physics with a Foundation Year, Physics with a Year Abroad, Physics with a
Year in Industry, Physics with Astrophysics or Physics with Astrophysics
with a Year Abroad.

·         Students that did not have a recorded tariff are excluded, for
example, some entry qualifications of international students cannot be
converted to a numerical tariff score.

·         The figures may differ slightly from information on average
tariff in league tables, because the league tables use HESA data that
excludes those undertaking a foundation degree.

·         It is not possible to accurately present the analysis by
previous school/establishment due to inconsistencies in the data held.
