Enrolments/applications data

Alexandra Tieghi made this Freedom of Information request to City, University of London

This request has been closed to new correspondence. Contact us if you think it should be reopened.

The request was refused by City, University of London.

Dear City University London,

I request the following information under the Freedom of Information Act:

1) Breakdown of enrolled first-year undergraduate students, sorted by primary nationality, for the academic years 2008/2009 to 2013/2014 included, in total number and in percentage over first-year student body, by Subject, as well as the total number of enrolled first-year undergraduate students by nationality in the University.

2) Breakdown of applicants to undergraduate degrees (four-year Master’s degrees and similar included), sorted by primary nationality, for the academic years 2008/2009 to 2013/2014 included, in total number and in percentage over total number of applicants, by Subject, as well as the total number of applicants to such degrees by nationality in the University.

3) Data on the means of payment of tuition fees of first-year undergraduate students from the EU, including UK, sorted by nationality - in particular, I request information on the amount of students relying on student loans or studentships as compared to those who fully support themselves on personal means. I request this data broken down by Subject, as well as the total data for all first-year undergraduate students in the University, for the same years specified above.

Should the information not be held by nationality, I would kindly request the same data, broken down by fee status (UK, EU non-UK, International), as long as UK students are clearly separated from EU non-UK students.

Thank you in advance.

Yours faithfully,

Alexandra Tieghi

Dear Alexandra Tieghi,

Thank you for your request for information (see below) received on
31/01/2018.

Your request is being dealt with under the terms of the Freedom of
Information Act 2000 and will be answered within twenty working days.
However, Please note the information you are seeking will take City,
University of London over the appropriate limit as specified in the
regulation, for City this is set at £450, the estimated cost of one person
spending 2.5 working days determining whether City holds the information;
and locating, retrieving and extracting the information from many academic
and professional services departments. Consequently, City, University of
London will not be obliged under Section 12 of the Freedom of Information
Act 2000 to respond to your request for information.

Could you please narrow it down? ‘’ the information you require in
questions 1- 3 inclusive’’ is too broad- Just to put this into
perspectives, City, University of London has approximately 18,997 students
every year and to comply with your request as it is would undoubtedly give
rise to disproportionate burden on its resources, It would take
significant time to comply with your request. I awaits your refined
request, alternatively ,please find information available on our website
at:

where you can find some statistics about City’s student statistics.
