Enrolment/Application statistics by nationality
Dear University of Essex,
I request the following information under the Freedom of Information Act:
1) Breakdown of enrolled first-year undergraduate students, sorted by primary nationality, for the academic years 2008/2009 to 2013/2014 included, in total number and in percentage over first-year student body, by Subject, as well as the total number of enrolled first-year undergraduate students by nationality in the University.
2) Breakdown of applicants to undergraduate degrees (four-year Master’s degrees and similar included), sorted by primary nationality, for the academic years 2008/2009 to 2013/2014 included, in total number and in percentage over total number of applicants, by Subject, as well as the total number of applicants to such degrees by nationality in the University.
3) Data on the means of payment of tuition fees of first-year undergraduate students from the EU, including UK, sorted by nationality - in particular, I request information on the amount of students relying on student loans or studentships as compared to those who fully support themselves on personal means. I request this data broken down by Subject, as well as the total data for all first-year undergraduate students in the University, for the same years specified above.
Should the information not be held by nationality, I would kindly request the same data, broken down by fee status (UK, EU non-UK, International), as long as UK students are clearly separated from EU non-UK students.

percentage over total number of applicants, by Subject, as well as the
total number of applicants to such degrees by nationality in the
University. Please see Excel spreadsheet attached above for data from
2009-10 to 2013-14. Please note that due to a change in our systems, we
do not hold data for the 2008-09 academic year.

in particular, I request information on the amount of students relying on

Following your recent enquiry regarding student salaries and fees here at
the University of Essex, please find our response below:
1) Breakdown of expected salaries, or average salaries for graduates from
undergraduate degrees in years 2008/2009 to 2013/2014 included, by
subject. If average salaries for recent EU (non-UK) or international
(non-EU) graduates are available, I would like those to be shared as well.
Please see the attached PDF document entitled Average Salaries for
information for 2012-17 which is based on undergraduates at all our
campuses and includes partnerships. We are unable to provide you with
information before 2012 as we do not hold it. This is therefore
information not held by us.
2) Tuition fees charged to first-year international students for
undergraduate degrees in years 2008/2009 to 2013/2014 included, broken
down by subject. Fees for all students, including international students,
can be found in the University Calendar. Please find attached six
University Calendars for the years that you are enquiring about. You will
find the information under ‘Fees’ on the following pages:
