English language requirements

The request was successful.

Dear University of Warwick,
The university of Warwick requires a minimum of grade C or above in GCSE English language or equivalent. However, my school did not offer English as a first language, and thus had to do English as a second language. In such case, would a recognised qualification like IELTS with the required score hit the minimum English language requirement, given that I achieved a grade B in English as a second language (with grade 1 in speaking)

Yours faithfully,

Shannon Ahmed

Dear Shannon Ahmed,

Thank you for your email dated 25^th February 2019 requesting information
from the University of Warwick. Your request is being considered under the
Freedom of Information Act 2000. Please find below your request and our
response.

The university of Warwick requires a minimum of grade C or above in GCSE
English language or equivalent. However, my school did not offer English as
a first language, and thus had to do English as a second language. In such
case, would a recognised qualification like IELTS with the required score

English as a second language does not meet our English language
requirements details of which can be found at
[1]https://warwick.ac.uk/study/undergraduat...

IELTS or other English language tests are designed for where English is
not the first language of the applicant. If an applicant is a native
speaker of English then IELTS or similar is not an acceptable test.

The University would not be able to advise fully on how you may meet the
English language requirements without further information which is
normally collated through the application process.

I trust that this information will be helpful to you. Should you require
any clarification, please contact me.

Yours sincerely,

Ken Punter
