Engineering Undergraduate Statistics: 2016/17 and 2017/18 Admissions Cycle
Dear Selwyn College, Cambridge,
I am making a FOI request for the following:
1)The ratio of state school to private school students admitted in 2016/17 and 2017/18
2) The scores/percentages of successful(that received an offer) applicants in their Engineering Admissions Assessment in the 2016/17 and 2017/18 admissions cycle (without revealing the personal information about individual candidates, such as name and school, thus providing the data in an anonymous way e.g. candidate 1,2 etc.) and their interview scores
3) The average Maths and Further Maths UMS scores of individual successful candidates who received an offer in the 2016/17 and 2017/18 admissions cycles.(without revealing the personal information about individual candidates, such as name and school, thus providing the data in an anonymous way e.g. candidate 1,2 etc.)
4) The number of unconditional offers given in the 2016/17 and 2017/18 admissions cycle
Yours faithfully,
Barry Nathan
Dear Mr Nathan
Thank you for your request of 19 February. Selwyn’s responses are as
follows:
1) The ratio of state school to private school students admitted in
2016/17 and 2017/18
UK home status maintained/independent ratio: 72.5%/27.5% (2016-7);
71.0%/29.0% (2017-8)
2) The scores/percentages of successful(that received an offer) applicants
in their Engineering Admissions Assessment in the 2016/17 and 2017/18
admissions cycle (without revealing the personal information about
individual candidates, such as name and school, thus providing the data in
an anonymous way e.g. candidate 1,2 etc.) and their interview scores.
Because the numbers are small it would be possible to identify individual
applicants therefore averages are provided:
Engineering Admissions Assessment score of applicants that received an
offer: 10.2 (2016-7); 11.1 (2017-8)
Interview score of Engineering applicants that received an offer: 7.6
(2016-7); 7.5 (2017-8)
3) The average Maths and Further Maths UMS scores of individual
successful candidates who received an offer in the 2016/17 and 2017/18
admissions cycles.(without revealing the personal information about
individual candidates, such as name and school, thus providing the data in
an anonymous way e.g. candidate 1,2 etc.)
It is not straightforward to separate Mathematics and Further Mathematics
modules because there is no uniform reporting. Furthermore because numbers
are small in some subjects it would be possible to identify individual
applicants. Accordingly averaged UMS are provided:
UMS scores for mathematics modules for successful applicants: 93.3
(2016-7); 92.4 (2017-8).
4) The number of unconditional offers given in the 2016/17 and 2017/18
admissions cycle.
8 (2016-7); 0-5 (2017-8)
Regards
