Dear Edinburgh Trams Limited,
I believe that the trams used in Edinburgh have regenerative braking capability. Please, to the extent that you have data, could you inform me:
i)What is the total annual electricity consumption for the Edinbourough trams
ii)What measures (if any) are in place to maximise recovery of regenerated energy from braking
e.g. driving strategy/ bi-directional substations/ energy storage
iii) If you have any data as to what percentage of electricity generated from rheostatic braking is reused, or inversely, what percentage of this energy is disapated in resistor banks.
iv) If there was a report on possible energy efficiency measures during commisioning of the trams with a simulation of electrical demands please could I have an electronic copy of this report, and any follow up data collection to verify its accuracy.
Please find enclosed our response to your recent FOISA enquiry to Edinburg
