Thank you for your email dated 4 December 2023, in which you requested information under the
Freedom of Information Act 2000 in relation to the Northern Education Trust. I am responding on
behalf of the trust in my capacity as the trust’s data protection officer.
The response follows:
Request:
What is the current average energy charge within the organisation (kW
hour)?
Response: The rates the trust is charged change monthly, but at present the rates it is
paying are:
• Gas - 7.557p per kW
• Electricity - 33.4p per kW (daytime rate)
• Electricity - 24.6p per kW (night-time rate).
Please note that our electricity tariff is ‘Zero Carbon for Business’.
Request:
What Carbon reduction goals are in place within the organisation?
Response: The trust has no formal carbon reduction policies in place, however actions
currently undertaken include:
• Actively working on the recommendation reports attached to our
buildings ‘Display Energy Certificates’.
• Obtaining and following advice from accredited energy assessors,
who specialise in advising buildings on lowering carbon.
• During planned building works we aim to install low carbon
technologies like LED lighting.
• Upgrades are carried out during planned periods to our Building
Management Systems.

What is the approximate spend on service over the last 12 months?
Response: The trust considers that it is not obliged to provide the requested
information under Section 43(2) of the FOI act, which exempts information
whose disclosure would, or would be likely to, prejudice the commercial
interests of any legal person (an individual, a company, the public authority
itself or any other legal entity).

Response: The current agreement in place with the trust ends in February 2026.
