Energy Bills

The request was partially successful.

Dear Department for Education,

For each of your Government office buildings that are part of your department in London could you please answer the following questions.

1. What was the bill for all energy costs at that building in (i) 2019/20, (ii) 2020/21 and (iii) each of the first three quarters of the 2021/22 financial year?

2. If possible, please split this bill up by the constituent costs? Eg how much for gas, electricity, oil etc……

Yours faithfully,

Dear Mr Davis

Thank you for your request for information, which was received on 11
February 2022. The department takes very seriously its obligations under
the Act, including the requirement to respond within the statutory
deadline of 20 working days. I am afraid we have not been able to maintain
this standard in this instance and I am very sorry for the inconvenience
it may have caused you.

You asked “Dear Department for Education, For each of your Government
office buildings that are part of your department in London could you
please answer the following questions. 1. What was the bill for all energy
costs at that building in (i) 2019/20, (ii) 2020/21 and (iii) each of the
first three quarters of the 2021/22 financial year? 2. If possible, please
split this bill up by the constituent costs? Eg how much for gas,
electricity, oil etc…… Yours faithfully,”

We have dealt with your request under the Freedom of Information Act
2000.

A number of Department for Education Arms Length Body (ALB) buildings are
in London. With the exception of its Executive Agencies (the Education and
Skills Funding Agency, the Standards and Testing Agency and the Teaching
Regulation Agency), the Department does not hold expenditure data
concerning energy costs for these ALBs.

The Government Property Agency (GPA) provides asset management services to
the Department for Education (including the executive agencies). It
procures energy through the Crown Commercial Services energy frameworks.
Electricity is supplied to Sanctuary Buildings, Great Smith Street, London
SW1P 3BT  by EDF Energy and gas is supplied by Corona Energy.

GPA also hold offices for the Department for Education within part of
Trafalgar House, Bedford Park, Croydon CR0 2AQ. The cost of energy
consumed forms part of the overall service charge for the property. As a
consequence of this, it is not possible to provide energy cost data which
is only attributable to the Department for Education in this property.

The energy costs for Sanctuary Buildings is included at Annex A.
