FOI REQUESTS (RDE) Colchester Hospital University NHS Foundation Tr,

Dear  Denise

Further to your request made to Colchester Hospital University NHS
Foundation Trust for information relating to the above and pursuant to the
Freedom of Information Act 2000, please see the Trust’s response below.

You requested:

1.            Does your Hospital perform Endomyocardial (EMB) Biopsy
procedures?

2.            If yes, How many Endomyocardial (EMB) Biopsy procedures were
performed in:

4.            Does your Hospital perform Biopsy to diagnose Amoeloid
Cardiomyopathy?

5.            If yes, How many Amoeloid Biopsy procedures were performed

6.            What was your Trust’s spend on Endomyocardial Biopsy in:

a.            2014

We do not do cardiac biopsy.

We do perform biopsy of other organs to diagnose amyloid disease (it is a
systemic condition).

Such biopsies would be of subcutaneous fat, rectal tissue, kidney.

We do not record how many Amoeloid and Emdomyocardial biopsy
electronically, Therefore we would have to manually go through individual
patient records which would exceed the time limit allocated for FOIs. As
we are unable to say how many there were we are equally unable to provide
the cost.

I am sorry to inform you that the Trust is applying a refusal notice under
Section 12 to this request as it has been estimated that the cost of
complying with the request exceeds the ‘appropriate limit’.

The appropriate limit

Section 12 of the FOIA provides an exemption from a public authority’s
obligation to comply with a request for information where the cost of
compliance is estimated to exceed the appropriate limit. The appropriate
limit is the key concept concerning fees.

The Fees Regulations state that this cost limit is £600 for central
government, legislative bodies and the armed forces (ie Part 1 of Schedule
1 of the FOIA) and £450 for all other public authorities.
