End of Garden Moorings and the 30 Mile Rule

Mike Wells made this Freedom of Information request to British Waterways Board

This request has been closed to new correspondence from the public body. Contact us if you think it ought be re-opened.

The request was successful.

Dear British Waterways Board,

PREAMBLE
In January of 2011 BW announced that it would now implement the 30 mile rule in London.

REQUEST FOR INFORMATION

1) Please clarify my understanding of the 30 mile rule, which I believe states that BW will not concider a request for an End of Garden Mooring if it is within 30 miles of an existing BW mooring.

2)Please provide documents including any research carried out which demonstrates the reason behind the decision to implement this rule in London, this may include minutes of meetings and or internal memos.

3)Are there any locations on BW's waterways in London which are less than 30 miles from a BW mooring? If so please give details of the areas that are less than 30 miles from a BW mooring.

4) have any requests for moorings in London been turned down for this reason? If so, a) when, and, b) how many applications have been turned down?

5) please provide details of the powers under which BW believes it is lawfull to put into place the 30mile rule both nationally and in London.

Thank you.

Yours faithfully,

Mike Wells

Information Request,

Dear Mr Wells,

I write further to my acknowledgement of 15th June and your request for information of 14th June.

In your preamble you state that " In January of 2011 BW announced that it would now implement the 30 mile rule in London", this is not correct. BW has not implemented any such rule in London and it would be helpful to know where this statement originated.

You can find all current Mooring Policies on our Waterscape website here http://www.waterscape.com/media/document... and our End of Garden Mooring application can be found here http://www.waterscape.com/things-to-do/b...

If we haven’t reasonably met your expectations in relation to a request for information or you believe we may not have acted in accordance with the above legislation you should write in the first instance to Kelly Radley Head of Customer Relations, 64 Clarendon Road, Watford, Herts WD17 1DA outlining your concerns and asking for a review to be undertaken. Your correspondence will be acknowledged and a review of your case will be undertaken by one of British Waterways’ directors.

Should you remain unsatisfied by the response you receive you are able to contact the Information Commissioner’s Office, Wycliffe House, Water Lane, Wilmslow, Cheshire SK9 5AF www.ico.gov.uk/Global/contact_us.aspx.

Yours Sincerely,
