Empty residential properties in the Bradford Distrist

The request was partially successful.

Dear Bradford City Council,

It has been reported in the T&A today that there are 2,610 empty residential properties.

Does the council record the types of residential property i.e. whether they are houses or apartments? If so can you break down the 2,610 into the type of residential property?

Also can I have the totals dating back 5 years to identify any potential trends?

Yours faithfully,

I Hudson

Mark Dewar, Bradford City Council

Dear I Hudson

I refer to the freedom of information request submitted to Bradford
Council on 23 December 2019.  Your request, and the Council’s response,
are both detailed below.

REQUEST

It has been reported in the T&A today that there are 2,610 empty
residential properties.

Does the council record the types of residential property i.e. whether
they are houses or apartments?  If so can you break down the 2,610 into
the type of residential property?

Also can I have the totals dating back 5 years to identify any potential
trends?

COUNCIL’S RESPONSE

Properties are only identified by Council Tax banding and no distinction
is made by flats or houses.

Please note the T&A article referred to has transposed its figures.  The
actual number of empty residential properties is 7908.

All the Council’s legacy Housing statistics are published by Government.

Dear Mark Dewar,

Given you don't hold the type of property, can I have the figures by post code as it's possible to determine that empty residential in BD1 would be primarily a flat and so on.

Yours sincerely,

I Hudson

Service Coordination Team, Bradford City Council

Good Afternoon - I refer to the follow up query made on the freedom of information request submitted earlier this month, and my initial response to you.

The information requested, ie, list of empty properties identified by postcode, cannot be supplied, as individual properties could potentially be identified from any report provided to you in this way.

Kind Regards

Dear Service Coordination Team,

I only want the initial characters of the postcode, i.e. BD1, BD2 etc so that in no way would identify any property.

Yours sincerely,

I Hudson

Dear Service Coordination Team,

Could you confirm you received my response that I only want the initial part of the postcode e.g. BD1, BD2 etc and that the data is being compiled on that basis as it in no way identifies any property?

Yours sincerely,

I Hudson

Service Coordination Team, Bradford City Council

Dear I Hudson

Your initial freedom of information request has been responded to, and you have since made two follow up enquiries requesting additional information.

This information now requested will take some time to gather together - no timeline has been provided for this by my analysts.

If you are not happy with this response, you can appeal by contacting [Bradford City Council request email]

Please find attached a spreadsheet as requested with partial postcodes and numbers of empty properties as at 10 January 2020.

NB - The Prem100 properties are those which have been unoccupied and unfurnished for 2 years or more, and PCLC properties are those which are classed as furnished but unoccupied.

Dear Service Coordination Team,

Thank you for taking the time to compile these figures, I did originally want some trend data, but I don't need that for all the postcodes so I'll raise a separate FOI for that.

I appreciate the help you've provided in supplying this information.

Yours sincerely,

I Hudson
