Empty Homes

Owen Sheppard made this Freedom of Information request to Hammersmith and Fulham Borough Council

The request was successful.

Dear Hammersmith and Fulham Borough Council,

I would like to receive information about the number of empty residential properties in the borough, and how long those properties have been empty.

Firstly, it states on page 6 of the council report 'Council Tax Base and Collection Rate 2021-22 and Delegation of the Business Rate Estimate' that there are "some 323 empty (unoccupied and unfurnished) properties in the borough".

Here is a link to the report: http://democracy.lbhf.gov.uk/documents/s...

I would be grateful if the council could tell me how many of those 323 properties have been empty for:
- More than 12 months as of January 1 2021
- More than 24 months as of January 1 2021
- More than 36 months as of January 1 2021
- More than 48 months as of January 1 2021
- More than 60 months as of January 1 2021
- More than 72 months as of January 1 2021
- More than 84 months as of January 1 2021
- More than 96 months as of January 1 2021
- More than 108 months as of January 1 2021
- More than 120 months as of January 1 2021

Furthermore, can the council please fully explain and outline what additional council tax charges are levied on owners of properties that have been empty for 12 months or more?

It may be worth nothing for you that Westminster City Council holds such information regarding the number of empty properties in its borough.

Page 6 of this Cabinet report from December 2020 indicates how many properties in Westminster have been empty for various lengths of time: https://committees.westminster.gov.uk/do...

Yours faithfully,

Owen Sheppard
