Employment of persons with autism
Dear Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital NHS Trust,
I note from your 2014-15 annual report (appendix 3) that as of 31 March 2015, 5592 people were employed by your organisation, of whom 134 disclosed a disability. My requests are as follows:
1) Within the figure of 134 disabled employees, please can you provide a separate figure for the number of employees with autism (including Asperger syndrome).
2a) For the last three 12-month periods for which you have data, please can you provide figures for the number of new staff appointed by Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital NHS Trust, and the number of these new starters who declared a disability.
2b) For the same three 12-month periods, please can you provide separate figures for the number of new starters who declared a diagnosis of autism (including Asperger syndrome).

* Information about members of staff with specific disabilities is not
held centrally as we do not hold this information. Such information could
only be obtained by manual review of personal files which are not held
centrally but are in the relevant departments and therefore the cost of
complying with the request would significantly exceed the appropriate
limit as set out in Section 12 of the Act.
Please also find attached a briefing which explains your rights to request
a review by the Trust or to complain to the Information Commissioner’s
Office if you are not satisfied with the response from the Trust, and an
outline of the Trust’s policy on the Reuse of Public Sector Information.
