Dear Mr Parnell
Freedom of Information Request – Our Ref: FOI/BS/1468
Further to my colleague Joao Curro’s email of 07 September 2015, please
find below the response to your information request under the Law
Society’s Freedom of Information Code of Practice ("the Code").
You have requested access to the following information:
1. What is the current policy for SRA in relation to employing
ex-offenders?
The SRA complies in full with the provisions of the Rehabilitation of
Offenders Act 1974. The Recruitment and Selection policy outlines the
requirement - as part of the pre-employment checks that the organisation
carries out – for successful candidates to, amongst other pre employment
requirements, complete a satisfactory Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS)
check.
2. In the last three years how many ex-offenders have been employed by
SRA, What offences were concerned and what posts were they placed into?
There is no record of a criminal record being declared by any employee of
the SRA in the last 3 years.
3. What factors are taken into consideration when considering an
ex-offender for a position within SRA.
The requirements and responsibilities of the role; the nature of the
offence; the date the offence was committed. Please note that the SRA
complies with the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 and the
Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 (Exceptions Order) 1975.
I hope this information is of use.
Yours sincerely
Bob Stanley
