Employment and support allowance underpayments

We're waiting for Lynsey Dalton to read recent responses and update the status.

Dear Department for Work and Pensions,

600,000 employment and support allowance cases have been or are in the process of being reviewed since 2018 to correct historical underpayments.

1. How many of these cases were paid or are due arrears that pre-dated the initial cut off point of 21 October 2014? Please include numbers from the additional 250,000 cases that were reviewed following the announcement of the Secretary of State in July 2018 to backdate payments to the point of conversion, and numbers from the initial 320,000 reviewed cases that were then reassessed following the announcement, resulting in increased payments.

2. What was the total amount that was paid in arrears of benefit that should have been paid between the point of conversion to employment and support allowance and 21 October 2014?

Yours faithfully,

Lynsey Dalton

Dear Department for Work and Pensions,
Thank you for your response to my request under the Freedom of Information Act 2000.
As suggested, I would like to narrow my request as follows:
600,000 cases were reviewed from 2018 to correct historical underpayments of employment and support allowance.
1. In how many of the cases where a payment has already been made did the arrears arise before October 2014?
2. How much has been paid in arrears to claimants that were due payments for the period pre-dating October 2014 only.

Yours faithfully,

Lynsey Dalton
