24 February 2016

Dear Sir

We are writing further to your e-mail dated 27 January 2016 requesting
information about Emergency Unit Sirens.

The questions you have raised along with their answers can be found below:

1.     Is the volume / loudness of your emergency response units sirens
adjustable?  We can confirm that the volume or loudness of an Emergency
Response Unit Siren is not adjustable.

2.     If so what are the units of volume (High, Medium, Low or 1 to 10
etc).  Because of the answer provided in response to Question 1 above,
this is not applicable.

3.     If so are they set centrally, by a maintenance function or by the
driver.  These are set by the Siren manufacturers themselves.

4.     If so if there is a default or recommended setting what is it (Both
in the units from question 2 and in decibels).  Please see the answer
provided in Question 5 below.

5.     If the answer to question one is “no” what is the volume of the
siren in Decibels.  With regards to decibel levels, it is extremely
dependent on where the siren drivers are installed, and also whether the
flare has any obstructions in the way of the sound path at the time.  The
Siren Amplifiers, which are made by a company called Whelen each have
different tones, and we can confirm each of these tones has its own unique
decibel level.  The height of the flare, along with the combination of
Siren Driver Type and Amplifier used also makes a difference.

Yours Sincerely

Matthew Williams
