If you would like to submit a complaint to our office about a Scottish public service, please be aware that we need to see that you have completed the complaints procedure with the relevant service first. Our office can only look into complaints about maladministration or service failure. To avoid doubt, unhappiness at a properly made decision by a public body does not amount to a complaint of maladministration or service failure.

We have not decided whether your complaint will be examined by our office at this stage; this is something that will be considered when we receive your fully completed complaint form and supporting documents. However, it is unlikely that we will be able to look at your complaint if it is about something which is being dealt with in court or it is about something which happened more than one year ago.
