Elective Home Education Policy Impact Assessment & engagement correspondence

The request was partially successful.

Fiona Nicholson

Dear Kent County Council,

Could you please provide me with electronic copies of any Equalities Impact Assessment prepared for the new elective home education policy approved by Cabinet in January 2015, particularly concerning children and young people with special educational needs and medical conditions, as well as children who have been victims of bullying.

I also note from the minutes of the January Cabinet meeting that "Mr Gough confirmed that in the weeks following the agreement of the revised policy, KCC would seek to engage as widely as possible with EHE families to receive feedback on the policy".

Please could you provide me with copies of letters/emails sent to home educating families regarding the new policy.

Yours sincerely,

Fiona Nicholson

Hi Laura

Many thanks.

Fiona

Kent County Council

Dear Ms Nicholson

Thank you for your request for information made under the Freedom of
Information Act (FOIA) 2000.

I am afraid you are unfortunately misinformed in regard to the Elective
Home Education Policy status in Kent. There was no decision taken by the
Cabinet in regard to the Policy in January. The Cabinet endorsed a draft
policy which is to form the basis of an engagement exercise with the wider
Kent EHE community before a final decision is taken on the policy.

There has been a delay starting the engagement exercise because we have
been developing our web content in relation to EHE and want to secure
feedback on this at the same time as the feedback on the draft policy. We
expect to have this go live before the end of April. Details of the EQIA
will also be available as part of that wider engagement exercise.

If you are unhappy with this response, and believe KCC has not complied
with legislation, please ask for a review by following our complaints
process; details can be found at this link
[1]http://www.kent.gov.uk/about-the-council...
on our website. Please quote reference FOI/15/0626.

If you still remain dissatisfied following an internal review, you can
appeal to the Information Commissioner, who oversees compliance with the
Freedom of Information Act 2000. Details of what you need to do, should
you wish to pursue this course of action, are available from the
Information Commissioner’s website [2]http://www.ico.org.uk/concerns.

Yours sincerely
