EHE department
Dear Sir or Madam,
1) How many of the registered electively home educated children in your Local Authority are involved in substantiated on -going social services cases where there is concerns about either abuse or
neglect? Current statistics should be readily available form the Principle Education Welfare officer who's remiot is Elective Home Education. My own LA, Dorset answered this question (in person) in under 5 minutes.
2)Are there any serious case reviews in your area?
Of the 152 Local Authorities in England asked a similar question , 133 have already answered this question without a need to raise the request to an internal review.
Only 19 Local Authorities in total have been unable or unwilling to answer the question despite the
fact that many of the Local Authorities who have answered have considerably more children registered than Cornwall Council.
I would like you to reconsider the position of Cornwall
Council regarding tis question before the deadline for submissions to the Select Committee
Enquiry.
For the purposes of this query, Elective Home Education refers only
to children being educated by thier parents who have either
de-registered form a school or have never attended a school. It does
not include exclusions, illness or truancy (CME)
All gathered statistics from the 152 Local Authorities are freely
available here:

Tania Berlow

Dear Ms Berlow
Thank you for your request. I referred it to the Council's Children,
Schools and Families Directorate and they have come back to me asking
for clarification on the second point of your request. Please could you
confirm if you would like to know if there are any serious case reviews
taking place now or have taken place in the past and in what timescale?
Do you want to know if we are involved in a serious case review which
involves a child educated at home?
Please let us know what information you are specifically requesting in
response to point 2 of your request.
Many thanks, kind regards
Sarah
