Education Policy for Ethnic Minority pupils during the mid to late 1960s

We're waiting for M Hackshaw to read a recent response and update the status.

Dear Luton Borough Council,

As is necessary, I am formally requesting information regarding Luton Borough Council's education policy regarding the education of ethnic minorities (particularly those of Afro Caribbean heritage) in the 1960s and 1970s.

My request specifically relates to the Council's education policy of the mid to late 60s/early 70s where pupils of Afro Caribbean heritage and of early years/reception school age were selected to be transported, by bus, to areas that were predominantly of White heritage, to start their full time statutory education (approximately years 1967-1969).

My request is for:

- printed documentation of the policy including the following
- the minutes of any related council meetings
- information/consultation documentation sent to schools
- a list of the participating schools
- information, letters and guidance sent to parents considering the offer for their own
child(ren)
- selection criteria for participating families
- the council's race relations policy/policies for the time in question
- any tracking/monitoring/evaluation of the Council's education policy outcomes

Yours faithfully,
M Hackshaw

Dear Luton Borough Council,

Please pass this on to the person who conducts Freedom of Information reviews.

I am writing to request an internal review of Luton Borough Council's handling of my FOI request 'Education Policy for Ethnic Minority pupils during the mid to late 1960s'.

It has been suggested that it was Bedfordshire County Council (the previous name/authority for Luton Borough Council) who instigated the policy. As such, historical archives should have the information requested and I wish an investigation to be undertaken with regard to the region’s education policy during the mid to late 1960s.

This important information must exist somewhere within the confine’s of the authority’s archives which I know covers hundreds of years.

I look forward to your response.

Kind regards
M Hackshaw
