Education Counsellors Supporting Pupils in Education Information

The request was successful.

Dear Sir or Madam,

1. Does your Local Authority presently employ Education
Counsellors* (rather than ‘buying in’ such a service from an external provider)?

2. If the answer to Question 1 is ‘yes’, please state for each Education Counsellor employed by the Local Authority:

• Whether they have been deemed to be eligible to join the Teachers Pension Scheme and

• The date when they joined the Teachers Pension Scheme

• Whether they are employed on Teachers Terms and Conditions of Employment

3. If your Local Authority does not presently employ Education Counsellors have they done so in the past?

4. If the answer to Question 3 is ‘yes’, please state for each School Counsellor employed by the Local Authority since 31 March 2004:

• Whether they were deemed to be eligible to join the Teachers Pension Scheme and

• When they joined the Teachers Pension Scheme

* Education Counsellors meaning those employed to support pupils in education

Dear C McEwan,

Reference : BSDFOI125

Thank you for your request for information about Education Counsellors
Supporting Pupils in Education Information. Your request was received on 5
June 2009 and I am dealing with it under the terms of the Freedom of
Information Act 2000.

Your questions and my answers are as follows ;

1. Does your Local Authority presently employ Education
Counsellors* (rather than `buying in' such a service from an
external provider)?

We do employ Education Counsellors, but currently we only employ 12 from 9
schools in all, from across almost 300 schools. There are a large number
of schools that employ Education Counsellors directly from an external
provider or agency.

2. If the answer to Question 1 is `yes', please state for each
Education Counsellor employed by the Local Authority:

o Whether they have been deemed to be eligible to join the Teachers
Pension Scheme and

o The date when they joined the Teachers Pension Scheme

o Whether they are employed on Teachers Terms and Conditions of
Employment

These staff are not employed on Teachers Terms & Conditions. They are
Support staff on NJC(National Joint Council) Conditions of service who are
not eligible to join the Teachers Pension Scheme.
3. If your Local Authority does not presently employ Education
Counsellors have they done so in the past?

Not Applicable

4. If the answer to Question 3 is `yes', please state for each
School Counsellor employed by the Local Authority since 31 March
2004:

o Whether they were deemed to be eligible to join the Teachers
Pension Scheme and

o When they joined the Teachers Pension Scheme

Please See question 2
