Dear Mr. Hurrell,
Information Request: EEIR 24770
Thank you for your information request dated 6 June 2025 received in our
office on the same day.
1. Details of inspection visits that EBC as made since 2015 to assess the
structural integrity of the pier
2. List the reports that you hold concerning the pier. Please provide
date, title and author of each report
3. Copies of each report listed in question 2.
4. List all evidence held by you concerning structural integrity and
maintenance of the pier. Please provide date, title and author of each
report
5. Copies of the evidence listed in question 4
6. Details of any action that has been taken to ensure that the pier is
properly maintained and structurally sound.
I have reviewed your request and investigated whether there is any
information which can be disclosed to you and have found that Eastbourne
Borough Council does not hold the information you have requested.
The pier is a privately owned structure and therefore all maintenance is
the responsibility of the owner. The council does not conduct inspection
visits. If it was reported that there were issues regarding it being a
dangerous structure then this would be enforced by Building Control.
Building Control in Eastbourne Borough is the responsibility of East
Sussex Building Control Partnership who can be contacted via the following
