DWP Contract

Max Kerley made this Freedom of Information request to Royal Mail Group Limited
This authority is not subject to FOI law, so is not legally obliged to respond (details).
This request has been closed to new correspondence. Contact us if you think it should be reopened.

Waiting for an internal review by Royal Mail Group Limited of their handling of this request.

Dear Royal Mail Group Limited,

Please could you confirm if you open and process mail on behalf of the DWP and how this is processed? Is the mail read by staff that DWP claimants have not given permission too?

As soon as mail is opened, is it scanned and sent to the DWP? Do you have criteria for refsuing to scan/forward it?

A alrge number of letters and forms go "missing. " Why and as this is sensitive and personal information, are you aware of DPA breaches?

How are staff vetted and what is the criteria for employment in this role?

Yours faithfully,

Max Kerley

irgt, Royal Mail Group Limited

Dear Mr Kerley

Thank you for your email in which you ask for information relating to mail
addressed to the DWP. Your request would have previously been handled
under the terms of the Freedom of Information Act 2000 however following
the flotation of Royal Mail on the London Stock Exchange in October 2013,
it is no longer subject to the Freedom of Information Act. Royal Mail was
previously subject to the Act because it was wholly owned by the
government. However, now that the government has sold its shares in Royal
Mail, this is no longer the case. Therefore, we are no longer obliged to
respond to requests for information under the terms of the FOI Act.

Dear Royal Mail Group Limited,

Please pass this on to the person who conducts Freedom of Information reviews.

I am writing to request an internal review of Royal Mail Group Limited's handling of my FOI request 'DWP Contract'.

I am very well aware of the current statues of "royal" mail. However it is still courteous to consider.

I also accuse Royal Mail of fraud.

Dear Mr Kerley

Thank you for your email. You have asked that Royal Mail performs an internal review of our response to your request for information which was submitted under the provisions of the Freedom of Information Act 2000.

As we have explained in our response to your request, following the flotation of Royal Mail on the London Stock Exchange on October 2013, it is no longer subject to the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA). The Act provides a right of access to information held by ‘public authorities’. Royal Mail Group was previously a public authority under section 3(1)(b) of the Act, because it was a publicly-owned company. Royal Mail was a publicly-owned company for the purposes of the FOIA because it was wholly owned by the Crown. However, now that the government has sold its shares in Royal Mail, this is no longer the case. Royal Mail Group therefore has no obligation to consider the disclosure of information it would not normally provide and Royal Mail Group is not required to perform internal reviews of requests submitted under the terms of the Freedom of Information Act 2000.

If you have concerns regarding Royal Mail's services we or require information about our products and services we would advise that you contact Royal Mail's Customer Services Department.

Dear Royal Mail Group Limited,

Please pass this on to the person who conducts Freedom of Information reviews.

I am writing to request an internal review of Royal Mail Group Limited's handling of my FOI request 'DWP Contract'.

I'm well aware of the status of "Royal" Mail, however you are still required to consider a FOI request.

You may no longer be government owned, however you are working for the government, so one could easily come to the conclusion that you are essentially the government and therefore subject to FOI disclosure.

I would state that, working for a criminal department such as the DWP, that you yourselves are also violating a variety of criminal and civil laws as well as violations of the Human Rights Act.
