Dear Cathy,

I am using "dropping out" to mean the number of students who did not complete their course, for whatever reason.

Yours sincerely,

Zia Weise

Dear Zia

Please could you confirm the HESA Reasons for Ending codes you would like us to use from the list below, or state "all codes", just so that we are clear. We note that "death" for example would not normally be defined as "dropping out" so we would like to be clear whether you want all of the definitions below included.

Many thanks

Cathy Murr

Dear Zia,

Further to your recent request for information, the University’s response follows.

A spreadsheet detailing students who have dropped out of their course in the last five years is attached. The Total tab gives the overall numbers and percentages; the Breakdown by Course tab give the course by course numbers and percentages. Please be advised that we have removed numbers for courses/pathways with fewer than 5 students in total, as such small cohorts might lead to the recognition of individuals. We are therefore invoking the exemption at s. 40 of the Freedom of Information Act in that the data requested constitutes personal data, the disclosure of which would contravene the first data principle of the Data Protection Act.

This completes the University’s response to your information request. If you are unhappy with the service you have received in relation to your request and wish to make a complaint or request a review of our decision please contact:

Head of Secretariat, Kingston University, River House, 53-57 High Street, Kingston upon Thames, KT1 1LQ.

In the event that you are not content with the outcome of your complaint you may apply directly to the Information Commissioner for a decision. Generally, the Information Commissioner cannot make a decision unless you have exhausted the complaints procedure provided by Kingston University. The Information Commissioner can be contacted at:

The Information Commissioner’s Office, Wycliffe House, Water Lane, Wilmslow, Cheshire, SK9 5AF.

I hope that you now have all the information you require.

Kind regards,

Lyn
