Dear Calderdale Metropolitan Borough Council,

I've previously made a freedom of Information request way back in 2012 about roadside water drains/gullies.

This was in Freedom of Information Request reference 11160

Would you please let me know who is now responsible for the cleaning of drains on our public roads and what is the budget for this during 2018 & so far 2019.

Nearly every drain I walk past are blocked and I want to pursue this matter further starting with this FOI.

Yours faithfully,

Jason Parker

Dear Tracy,

Many thanks for your reply, I appreciate that there is no set budget for the cleaning of drains but would it be possible if you could give me a figure for 2018/2019 out of the £400,000 that was actually spent on cleaning/clearing public drains and how many drains this was for. This will help me work out the cost to clear each drain. If this information is not available would it be possible to estimate how much it would cost for a drain to be cleaned of debris.

Yours sincerely,

Jason

Good Morning Jason,

In the 2018/2019 fiscal year, £388,000 was spent on gully cleansing, with 18,800 gullies cleaned it costs us a little under £21 to clear each gully. This cost includes all the investigation work, traffic management, data collection as well as physically cleaning out the gully and disposing of the waste.

I hope this helps?

Thanks

Kind Regards

Tracy

Dear Tracy,

Thank you so much for the replies, I appreciate that you are busy.

I also appreciate that there are more than 18,000 gullies in Calderdale but would it be possible to give me a bit more info as to what location the Gullies have been cleaned in Calderdale, If this isn't possible or too much work then that's ok.

The reason I ask is because I do lots of walking and where ever I seem to walk the drains always seem to be blocked solid and the rain just then flows onto the road so I'm just curious as to what location these have been cleaned so I can go and have a look

Once again thanks for all your help

Yours sincerely,

Jason

Good Morning Jason,

I have spoken to my colleague in Highways and to find this information would far exceed any limits that we would apply to supplying information for a Freedom of Information request, as per section 17 of the Freedom of Information Act.

Unfortunately we are unable to provide the information you’ve asked for.

Thanks

Dear Tracy ,

Thanks for trying, I appreciate your help

I'll do some walking around Calderdale and see if I can spot any that have been cleaned and start mapping areas :-)

Yours sincerely,
