This request has been closed to new correspondence from the public body. Contact us if you think it ought be re-opened.

The request was partially successful.

Dear Dorset Police,

I read with interest the headline "Dorset Police has nearly 100 per cent satisfaction rate for how it treats crime victims"

https://www.dorsetecho.co.uk/news/179332...

Could you please explain what data was used to reach this conclusion and how it was gathered?

How were those who contributed to this result selected?

Yours faithfully,

Ian Belchamber

Dear .Freedom of Information,
Thanks for your reply but I am not sure it is complete, I see only one page which seems to end rather abruptly.

Although there may be no selection criteria, please could you indicate the actual number that took part in this case, and of those, the number in which their case ended in success, such as the recovery of a loss, a conviction, etc.

Please could you detail the actual text of the questions asked.

Yours sincerely,

Ian Belchamber

Dear .Freedom of Information,

Thanks for your response. I'm not really getting the confidence I am seeking that this result is accurate, impartial, and properly representative. The statement seems very unlikely given that crime detection is down to 16%. A proper study would have ensured that there was no bias, and would have ensured that the sample selected was representative, so that for example, 16% of the sample had a successful outcome.
Additionally most organisations hold data electronically these days and the data I am asking for should be available with a few mouse clicks.

So inability to answer indicates that this survey has not been carried out properly and should not be trusted. I will wait to see if you are able to answer these concerns before marking this question as unanswered.

Yours sincerely,

Ian Belchamber

Dear .Freedom of Information,

Thank for your reply but you have failed to answer the second part of my additional question "please could you indicate the actual number that took part in this case, and of those, the number in which their case ended in success, such as the recovery of a loss, a conviction, etc."

I appreciate that this concludes your FOI responsibility, but for the benefit of anyone else reading this, I point out that what I was trying to find out, if the survey was carried out properly, does not look positive.

Yours sincerely,

Ian Belchamber
