Doncaster Sheffield Airport Airspace and Ministerial Decisions

We're waiting for Wai M Yau to read a recent response and update the status.

Dear Department for Transport,

Without prejudice to the generality of the foregoing, I am writing to request information under the Freedom of Information Act 2000 regarding Doncaster Sheffield Airport.

1. I would like to request the following in relation to Doncaster Sheffield Airport

a) All communications between any official for the Department for Transport and the Secretaries of State and the Ministers of State – Heidi Alexander, Louise Haigh; Mike Kane.

b) All communications between the Department for Transport including officers and the Secretaries of State/ Ministers of State aforementioned in (a), and any authorised officer involved in the mobilisation of Doncaster Sheffield Airport (any member of the City of Doncaster Council including Mayor Ros Jones, any officer of FlyDoncaster Limited, any authorised consultant extensively but not exclusively FP Airports Ltd, Munich Airports International, Jacobs, Cyrrus Aviation)

c) All communications between the Department for Transport including Ministers, and the MPs representing Doncaster, Lee Pitcher MP and Sally Jameson, including meetings and minutes of the DSA Action Group set up by Lee Pitcher and any other discussions.
in respect of mobilising or progressing the airspace

2. In relation to the inquiry titled "Is airport expansion compatible with net zero and environmental targets?" launched on March 28, 2025.
In a statement announcing the inquiry, Toby Perkins MP, Chair of the Environmental Audit Committee (EAC), indicated that Ministers are “contemplating decisions on airport expansion projects,” explicitly mentioning the reopening of Doncaster Sheffield Airport alongside other projects such as Heathrow, London Luton, and Gatwick. I am seeking to understand the specifics of the decision the DfT is being asked to make regarding Doncaster Sheffield Airport in this context.
Please provide the following information:

a) Nature of the Decision: A description of the specific decision or decisions the DfT Ministers are being asked to make regarding the reopening of Doncaster Sheffield Airport, including whether this pertains to funding, regulatory approval, airspace management, environmental compliance, or any other aspect.

b) Scope and Objectives: Details of the scope of the decision, including any stated objectives or criteria (e.g., economic, environmental, or operational) that Ministers are expected to consider in relation to the airport’s reopening.

c) Documentation: Copies of any briefing papers, reports, or correspondence prepared for or sent to DfT Ministers between January 28, 2025, and March 28, 2025, that outline the decision-making process or options under consideration for Doncaster Sheffield Airport’s reopening, as linked to the EAC inquiry.

d) Environmental and Net Zero Considerations: Any specific information provided to Ministers regarding how the reopening of Doncaster Sheffield Airport aligns with or impacts the UK’s net zero commitments and environmental targets, as referenced in the EAC inquiry.

Yours faithfully,

Wai M Yau

FOI Advice, Department for Transport

Dear Wai M Yau,

The Department holds information that falls within the terms of your
request, however we need more time to carry out a public interest test.

The FOI Act requires us to respond to requests no later than 20 working
days from receipt.  However, where the information is potentially exempt
from disclosure, and a complex public interest test needs to be carried
out to determine whether the information should be disclosed or not, the
deadline can be extended by a further 20 working days.  Your request
covers multiple strands and will require work by different teams within
the Department for Transport when considering the Public Interest Tests.
The deadline for answering your request is being extended for these
reasons.

We plan to let you have a response by 29/05/2025.  If there is a need for
additional time we will keep you informed.

If you have any queries about this letter, please contact me. Please
remember to quote the reference number above in any future
communications.

Yours sincerely,
FOI Advice Team
