Donations Committee
Dear Keble College, Oxford,
I am writing to request information on how the College considers small donations to local organisations.
These may be the responsibility of a specific committee (not necessarily called Donations Committee) or they may be addressed by a general committee (which may be called General Purposes Committee, Internal Committee, or another name).
If you have a specific committee which considers donations, please provide its most recent minutes.
If you have a general committee which considers donations, please provide the most recent decision on donations from its minutes.
I am also requesting any criteria or guidelines for eligibility and any criteria or guidelines which the College uses in making decisions on requests for donations.
Yours faithfully,
William Crowe

Dear William Crowe,
This is in reply to your enquiry received by the College on 9 April 2024 and made under the Freedom of Information Act 2000 (FOIA). I can confirm that the College does hold some information related to your request. The information as held by the College is:
There is no Donations Committee or anything comparable.
We have a clear policy which is not to make charitable donations as all of our activity and any excess funds should be directed to our own charitable mission.
The one exception is for any charity that acts in line with our mission. We have made 2 donations to Oxford Nightline in the last 3 years following requests from them. In each case the decision was taken by Finance Committee and was minuted. Most recent decision from FC on 24th January 2024 below.
'FC 24.05 Charity Donation – Oxford Nightline
The College has a strict policy of not donating outside our own charitable objects. However, we have previously donated to Oxford Nightline on the basis that it provides support for students including Keble students. The most recent donation had been for £250 in January 2022.
The Bursar had received a request for a donation from Oxford Nightline and recommended donating £300.
The Committee approved the donation.'
If you have further questions please ask me in the first instance. Details about the College’s approach to Freedom of Information, including who to ask for a review, can be found at https://www.keble.ox.ac.uk/freedom-of-in.... If, after following those procedures you are still not satisfied with the way in which your request has been dealt with you may apply directly to the Information Commissioner for a decision.
Yours sincerely,
Peter Monteith
