Dear Zia,

Further to your recent request for information, the University’s response
follows.

1.                   A list of all donations made to the University or
specific faculties/departments within the University, broken down into the
academic years 2011/2012, 2012/13 and 2013/14.

The data below is given for the University’s financial year which runs
from 1st August – 31st July.  The data for 2013/14 will not be available
until after 1st August 2014. We have therefore supplied the data for the
last three complete years.  The total of donations received are:

1st August 2010 – 31st July 2011: £359,111

1st August 2011 – 31st July 2012: £225,202

1st August 2012 – 31st July 2013: £327,685

2.            Please include the following information: the name or
organisation that made the donation;

The names of donors to the University’s annual fund are listed in the
attached donor reports which are in the public domain.  Other donors to
the University have not given permission for their names to be made public
and, therefore, these cannot be supplied. Please note that Section 40(2)
of the Freedom of Information Act 2000 states that information is exempt
if its disclosure to a member of the public would contravene any of the
data protection principles. In this case the University is satisfied that
disclosure of the names of other donors  would breach principle one of the
Data Protection Act 1998 because the individuals concerned would have a
reasonable expectation that this information would be treated
confidentially.

As such the University considers the names donors to be exempt from
disclosure under s. 40(2) of the Act as disclosure would be neither fair
nor lawful.

3.            the amount donated

The totals of the amount donated are given above.

4.            the date (at least mm/yyyy) when the donation was made;

This information is confidential and cannot be supplied. See note attached
to Question 2.

5.            and whether the donation was made to a specific
department/faculty or the University as a whole.

Donations were received for both specific departments/faculties and for
the University as a whole.

This completes the University’s response to your information request. If
you are unhappy with the service you have received in relation to your
request and wish to make a complaint or request a review of our decision
please contact:

Head of Secretariat, Kingston University, River House, 53-57 High Street,
Kingston upon Thames, KT1 1LQ.

In the event that you are not content with the outcome of your complaint
you may apply directly to the Information Commissioner for a decision.
Generally, the Information Commissioner cannot make a decision unless you
have exhausted the complaints procedure provided by Kingston University.
The Information Commissioner can be contacted at:

The Information Commissioner’s Office, Wycliffe House, Water Lane,
Wilmslow, Cheshire, SK9 5AF.

I hope that you now have all the information you require.

Kind regards,

Lyn
