Dear Your Right To Know,
Can you please supply under the Freedom of Information Act, Essex County Council's policy for male victims of domestic violence and their children. It appears that Essex County Council is happy to assist females and their children and have refuges in place, yet nothing for men and their children.
Yours sincerely,
David Darby.

Dear Your Right To Know,
Many thanks for confirming that Essex County Council is a gender bias Council when it concerns domestic violence/abuse.
You quote;
"Currently the total number of units/places funded by Essex County Council is 231 which include refuge and floating support.
Essex does not currently have a dedicated men’s refuge".
Shocking that you are clear to support females and their children fleeing domestic violence/abuse and not men and their children when figures shown below are readily available....
The CSEW shows that 25% of female victims and 21% of male victims experience repeat incidents within a 12 month period. Essex police data shows that 23% of female victims are repeat victims whilst 13% of male victims are repeat victims, indicating underreporting could be present, especially for males.
National intelligence demonstrates that the scale & impact of domestic abuse in the UK is extensive.It is estimated that in a year 7% of women and 5% of men in the UK experienced domestic abuse.
So 25% of women are likely to re-offend, compared to 21% of males, 7% of women experience domestic abuse compared to 5% of men. Yet Essex County Council offers 231 places for women and their children, yet none for men? Think you need to be addressing the gender discrimination here Essex County Council don't you.
Yours faithfully,
David Darby
