We are writing to make an open Government request for all the information to which we are entitled under the Freedom of Information Act 2000.

With this in mind could you please provide to SAFE CPS the following information:

1. Total number of "Domestic Homicides" in the Devon & Cornwall Force area from 1st January 2015 to 31st December 2015.

a. How many victims of Domestic Homicide were female?
b. How many victims of Domestic Homicide were male?
c. How many victims of Domestic Homicide were under the age of 18?

2. Total number of "Domestic Homicides" in the Devon & Cornwall Force area from 1st January 2014 to 31st December 2014.

a. How many victims of Domestic Homicide were female?
b. How many victims of Domestic Homicide were male?
c. How many victims of Domestic Homicide were under the age of 18?

3. Total number of "Domestic Homicides" in the Devon & Cornwall Force area from 1st January 2013 to 31st December 2013.

a. How many victims of Domestic Homicide were female?
b. How many victims of Domestic Homicide were male?
c. How many victims of Domestic Homicide were under the age of 18?

We would like the above information to be provided to us as paper or electronic copies, audio tape version or an opportunity to view.

If this request is too wide or unclear, we would be grateful if you could contact us as we understand that under the Act, you are required to advise and assist requesters. If any of this information is already in the public domain, please can you direct us to this with page references and URLs if necessary.

We understand and recognise the need to safeguard and protect, we ask that if this information cannot be in the public domain then it is shared privately by email - [email address]. If the release of any of this information is prohibited on the grounds of breach of confidence, we ask that you supply us with copies of the confidentiality agreements and remind you that information should not be treated as confidential if such an agreement has been signed.

1. Any request must be accompanied with the name of the requester and contact details
2. A definition/ explanation of the term 'domestic homicide' should be provided to enable correct direction of department(s) to retrieve information if it exists or able to be released
3. All responses to FOI requests are made with a view to be published within the public domain, any disclosure would be made as per the Act
4. The Force does not operate under 'confidentiality agreements' but subject to the provisions of the Data Protection Act

Domestic Homicide -  Domestic violence homicides are those murders that
are committed by family members, i.e. husbands and wives, boyfriends and
girlfriends, boyfriends and boyfriends and girlfriends and girlfriend
relationships and other family members.

 

Your request will be considered in accordance with the Freedom of
Information Act 2000. You should expect to be sent a response within the
statutory limit of 20 working days, subject to the provisions of the Act.

Domestic Abuse Commissioner 5/12/23:

Services should do more to stop domestic abuse killings, says Domestic Abuse Commissioner

'Fifty two per cent of victims had already had contact with the police before they were killed, according to one of the reports which looked at 46 reviews which made recommendations for criminal justice agencies like the police or probation. Fifty seven per cent of perpetrators had criminal records for domestic abuse offences before killing their victim.'
