Dear Mr Jones

Freedom of Information (Scotland) Act 2002

Request for Information – Dogs

I refer to your request for information dated 11 August 2017

The information you requested was:-

How many dogs were put to sleep each year from 2012 to 2016?

To clarify this means dogs put to sleep by or/and on behalf of the
council, it's contractors, agencies, dog wardens, kennels, etc.

I do not require any information about police, private individuals and
vets putting dogs to sleep without the council involved.

Year can be a calendar year, April-April or/and any other type of year to
suit the council and/or information you have.

Response

In relation to the above I am advised that no dogs were put to sleep from
2012 to 2016.  We can advise that we do not request that an animal be put
down, the police may request this of the courts. A stray animal may be put
to sleep for medical reasons but that is not at our behest; the animal
would be kept for 7 days and then would become the property of the
Perthshire Abandoned Dog Society.
