Dear Sir/Madam

Further to your request for information concerning:

2. For each year from 2005/6 to 2018/19 how many Commercial Breeding
Establishments are there for dogs? (Commercial Breeding Establishments
defined as 5 or more litters per year)

Can you please clarify exactly what information you require. There is no
actual definition of a Commercial Breeder.   Are you referring to Licensed
Dog Breeders. A Licensed dog breeder was not  strictly governed by 5
litters prior to October 2018 and a license may have been required for
less.   Since 2018 a  License is required for 3 litters or more, but again
may be required for less.

Your request will be put on hold while we await your clarification.

Kind Regards

Dear REGFOI, (Margaret Johnson),

Thank you for your clarification. For consistency, so that I can compare across time, I decided to look at licensed dog breeders who were licensed for 5 or more litters per year.
Can you give me further information about Dog Breeders that were licensed for fewer litters than that prior to the change in October 2018 to 3 litters or more? I was under the impression that there was massive under-registration for the 5 litter or more threshold, let alone breeders voluntarily coming forward to be licensed for fewer thann 5 litters?

Best wishes
Hilary
