Does any plastic waste get sent overseas?

The request was partially successful.

Dear Derbyshire County Council,

Given the reports about plastic for recycling being sent overseas, where it is sometimes not properly recycled, I'd be interested to know whether plastic waste is disposed of by sending it abroard.

Yours faithfully,

Jane Reynolds

Dear Ms Reynolds

Thank you for your request dated 14^th January 2019.

Your enquiry was as follows:

Given the reports about plastic for recycling being sent overseas, where
it is sometimes not properly recycled, I'd be interested to know whether
plastic waste is disposed of by sending it abroard.

Please see the below Environmental Information Regulations 2004 response:

NB: This request for information has actually been dealt with under the
Environmental Information Regulations 2004 as it concerns matters
pertaining to land and environment.

Plastic materials are accepted for recycling at the County Council’s
Household Waste Recycling Centres (HWRCs), most of this being
separated/sorted and sent to firms around the UK, however plastic
recycling is dependent on the markets available at the time and currently
a small amount is being sent abroad to be fed back into the plastic
processing industry.

Please note that plastic materials are collected at the kerbside from
households by Derbyshire’s Borough and District Councils, who make their
own arrangements for the recycling of all material collected and you will
therefore need to contact each of them direct for this information if you
have not already done so.

I hope this now satisfies your request.

However should you require a review of the response you have received to
your FOI/EIR request, please follow the procedure as set out below:-

Stage 1:
