documentation supporting 22/CAG/0129
Dear HRA,
With the discrepancy between the “application title” and “medical purposes” register sections of project with HRA reference 22/CAG/0129, can you please provide:
1) copies of the formal advice of CAG to that project relating to purposes,
2) all documents supplied by the applicant to the Confidentiality Advisory Group to inform decision making for any initial request or later modifications for that project.
With thanks
Sam Smith

Dear Sam,
Freedom of Information (FOI) Act request
We are writing in response to your request for information, under the FOI
Act, dated 22 August 2023 requesting the following information regarding
CAG application 22/CAG/0129:
1. A copy of the formal CAG advice provided to the project relating to
purposes
1. All documents supplied by the applicant to the Confidentiality
Advisory Group to inform decision making for any initial request or
later modifications for the project
Our response:
1. copies of the formal advice of CAG to that project relating to
purposes
Please note that CAG do not provide formal advice on applications related
to purpose, outside that of formal CAG meetings. It is the responsibility
of the sponsor to determine the purpose of the CAG application and set
that out to CAG within the application. Where CAG raise concerns about the
stated purpose these will be noted in the minutes of the CAG review. This
application was submitted for research purposes (as noted by the research
application form and justifications set out within it, and the associated
application to a Research Ethics Committee). CAG raised no concerns about
the stated purpose.
• The formal CAG minutes for the initial CAG meeting can be found
[1]here
• The formal CAG minutes for the response to provisional considerations
will be published in the August 2023 sub-committee minutes, which
should be publicly available in September.
1. all documents supplied by the applicant to the Confidentiality
Advisory Group to inform decision making for any initial request or
later modifications for that project.
• Please see attached PDF files which contain the information you have
requested. We ask you to note that all personal information has been
redacted in line with the requirements of the Data Protection Act.
• We would like to highlight that there is one document that we are
currently unable to issue. This document is titled CAG application

further clarification, please let us know.
