Dear Mr Penn,
1.
I am writing further to your e-mail dated 29 October 2017 in which you request the following
information:
“Please could your clarify more information on the secret underground complex at WW2
Burtonwood RAF Airbase in the above named document (04-10-2007-072719-002). For example;
Active underground complex currently active, Top Secret (Classified), Underground Military Base
currently active, Intelligence Centre currently active, NCA data intelligence active, other”.
2.
I am treating your correspondence as a request for information under the Freedom of
Information Act 2000 (FOIA). A search for the information has been completed within the Ministry
of Defence (MOD) and I can confirm that no information in scope of your request is held.
3.
Under Section 16 of the Act (Advice and Assistance) you may find it helpful to note that the
request for information dated 2007 concerned photographing areas of the former RAF base. RAF
Burtonwood was vacated by the United States Visiting Forces in August 1993, and the disposal of
the site by the MOD was completed in 2003. It is no longer MOD property or used by the MOD.
4.
If you are not satisfied with this response or you wish to complain about any aspect of the
handling of your request, then you should contact me in the first instance. If informal resolution is
not possible and you are still dissatisfied then you may apply for an independent internal review by
contacting the Information Rights Compliance team, Ground Floor, MOD Main Building, Whitehall,
SW1A 2HB (e-mail
xxxxxxxxxx@xxx.xx). Please note that any request for an internal review must
be made within 40 working days of the date on which the attempt to reach informal resolution has
come to an end.
5.
If you remain dissatisfied following an internal review, you may take your complaint to the
Information Commissioner under the provisions of Section 50 of the Freedom of Information Act.
Please note that the Information Commissioner will not investigate your case until the MOD internal
review process has been completed. Further details of the role and powers of the Information
Commissioner can be found on the Commissioner's websit
