Do you recognise FRUEC5 as Technician with private providers?
Dear South Central Ambulance Service NHS Trust,
I would like to know if you accept and recognise the First Response Emergency Care pathway. In particular I would like to know if you recognise the First Response Urgent and Emergency Care Level 5 as a Technician level qualification. If so, do you allow private providers (such as Elite EMS, Central Medical Services, Jigsaw and Polaris etc) to employ people with FRUEC Level 5 on their frontline contracts with SCAS as Technicians and practice as Technicians/at Technician level.
If so, please provide support documentation that this is an approved Technician qualification that you accept for private provider staff.
Yours faithfully,
Anonymous FRUEC5 qualified person.

Good morning,
In regard to the First Response Urgent and Emergency Care (FREC) qualification, the Trust do not accept this qualification as we cannot assure the educational governance around it, we have never been assured of a robust and standardised approach regarding the educational delivery and quality across the many providers. Additionally, the Trust took the strategic decision some years back to no longer recruit to the role of Technician.
With this in mind, we do not allow Private Providers to use FREC 5 trained staff to operate as Technicians on the SCAS contract.
