Dear Sarah Knight

Thank you for contacting Buckinghamshire Council and your request for information regarding road
closures and quietways.
This request has been handled under the Environmental Information Regulations 2004.
Please refer to our response below.
Response:
1. Does Buckinghamshire Council receive any funds and/or monetary incentives for closing local roads
and/or creating "quietways"?
No financial incentives are / have been received for quietways specifically. The Council can bid for
external funding for active travel (cycling/walking) improvements, which could include future
quietway routes. These are set out as proposals in the applicable Local Cycling and Walking
Infrastructure Plan.

2. Who are these funds received from?

Subject to a funding application, the active travel (cycling/walking) funding generally comes

through the Department for Transport (DfT) via Active Travel England.

3. Under what initiative are roads being closed and "quietways" installed?

No specific initiative. The only two 'point closures' we have implemented in Buckinghamshire were

introduced on a trial basis as part of the DfT's Emergency Active Travel Fund in 2020. The roads
remain accessible for non-motorised traffic.

4. How many road closures/quietways has Buckinghamshire Council agreed to create under this
initiative?

Two (as above), which have since been made permanent following local public consultation.

5. How are the road closures and/or quietways identified for implementation?
In response to the Emergency Active Travel Fund in 2020 several schemes were identified to trial
'point closures'.
Under the Environmental Regulations 6(1)(b) the public authority shall make information available
'unless the information is already publicly available and easily accessible to the applicant'

6. Who is providing the planters and signage to facilitate the road closures and/or quietways?
We do not have a specific supplier. The planters and signage we have installed were sourced
through the Council's highways contractors.

7. Has the provider of these planters and signage been subjected to a public tender process? If the
answer is yes, please provide evidence.

N/A.

Please quote the reference number 3337385 in any future communications.
